Top 10 Reasons To Crochet
Do Not Fear, Crochet is Here!
There are so many people out there that are so afraid... or maybe lazy too just pick up a hook. But its not that hard. I learned to knit from a teacher in elementary school. I absolutely loved and looked forward to it, every week. I loved it because I was making something! A belt, a headband, or a bracelet. Now I'm 18 and I love crocheting, and running my own store (DorkablyDesigned) on Etsy featuring my very own items. There is certain amount and type of enjoyment that I get from crocheting. I'm going to share a few with you so that maybe you can have some too. 10 Reasons You Should Crochet!

1. Crochet facilitates creativity!
I can’t tell you how many times I began crocheting a scarf and ended up with a purse or a hairband instead. At least for me, it’s taught me a lot of different ways to look at one material and what it can become.
2. Bond With Your Kids!
Let’s face it, kids like crafts! My little sister has been getting so excited lately to wear the products I’m selling. She has even begun to learn how to crochet. She now knows how to chain. Learn how to do a simple pattern on YouTube and do that same pattern with your kids. It’ll give you some quality time with them and give them a positive, creative, and fun outlet. Some great ideas are bows for girls, and a mini football for boys.
3. Its Easy!
People always ask me how I learned to crochet. It’s the 100% truth that I learned from YouTube. I found a nice pattern that I wanted to do. I looked up YouTube videos with the kind of stitches and basic crochet. There are TONS of crochet tutorials, trust me there is something you want to make.
4. As good as DIY, if not better!
So many people put DIY and Crafts in two separate boxes. But guess what. You need a rug? Crochet it! Need a Sweater? Don’t buy it. Crochet it! You can have DO IT YOURSELF crochet hats, table runners, shoes, blankets, hats, jewelry, furniture! There are so many options and how it looks is all up to you.
5. Be a part of history!
Crochet first came one the map in the 1800s, but it didn’t take off until Queen Victoria made it popular in the 20th century1 . When you start crocheting, you can tell your friends, “I dabble in the hobbies of royalty.” All joking aside. One of the reasons I love sifting around Etsy is because it is all about the revival of all things handmade! In an age of industry and manufacturing, the beauty and value of handmade items has been extremely underrated. I’m not telling you to become an Etsian. I just want to invite you to preserve a little bit of crochet history with your own craft!

6. Get Social
My freshman year in high school I joined a club at my school. They did all sorts of crafts. I improved my knitting, crocheting, and sewing skills there. But best of all I got some good laughs. Sometimes we had group projects and sometimes we would share what we were working on. One time I finished an amigurumi penguin in 3hours and barely even noticed. Good people. Good times. So find a crochet group in your area. Or get together a group of friends and you can do it together.
7. Make a Difference
You never know how much of a blessing a handmade item can be until you give one. Over the years I've donated hats, pillows, plushies, and blankets. Nursing homes, hospitals and even many international organizations collect crochet goods to help those in need. You can be a part of that too. Go get your hook, it can make a difference.
8. Build Confidence
With any new skill comes confidence. For me, Crochet gave me the confidence to become a self-titled entrepreneur. But really, having the ability to say you are wearing your own statement, crochet piece is enough confidence building in itself.
9. Crochet Gifts Rock!
I am telling you, crochet is one of the cheapest, yet most meaningful gift you can give anyone this holiday season. You can buy a set of hooks for 10 dollars and a bundle of yarn for 3 dollars on amazon. That's all you need, well, and a pattern. But with a little time you can make your mom a traditional scarf or you friends some cozy socks. Trust me, they'll appreciate it.
10. Relax!
It’s the most productive form of relaxation. Put those PJs on, turn on your favorite movie, grab some food, and enjoy! Once you get going you’ll be done with that scarf by the time the guy gets the girl. I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s therapeutic. I mean really, you get two for the price of one. Get comfortable, and you’ll be crocheting hats in the dark like me. Oops, did I really say that.
Thank you so much for reading my lens and I sincerely hope, that you pick up a hook and get to chaining.
